Handtastic Intentions: Swatch and Review of Orly: Faint of Heart, Monroe’s Red and Space Cadet

Today I wanted to share my first Scofflaw Nail Varnish with you: I’ve ordered from Scofflaw before, but it was for a secret Santa exchange and not myself, so this is the first ever Scofflaw swatch for Polish Hound. I am a massive, massive Tom Waits fan he’s really a hero of mine , and Rain Dogs is one of his best albums- if not the best- so, this polish had to be mine! I don’t know if the name of this polish is really a reference to the album or not, but either way Rain Dogs is a warm-toned purple that looks cooler-toned when built-up. It’s filled with beautiful holographic microglitter and shimmer particles that shift blue-green. The base is more of a creme than a crelly. Artificial light, three coats: You can see that it’s totally opaque and non-streaky at the second coat, but the color stays at more of a warm-toned plum- so it just depends what you like! I hate to say it, but my expectations for this polish were super high, and I don’t think it quite lived up to them.

Haha, also, people will notice it from far away! Finish My experience with neon nail polish made me expect to see Glowstick by Orly dry down to a matte finish. It had a sheen that perhaps you could wear without a top coat, but I love to dry the polish fast with my Seche Vite.

Hook the loop you just created around the green ground screw at the bottom of your light switch. Once again, remember to ensure that you have a tight connection. Insert your light switch into the box and secure it with a screw at the top and bottom of your switch.

Friday, October 29, Orly Holiday swatches! I’m excited to be collecting the holiday polishes this year – I just love the holiday season. I would very much like to skip the next one and half months and jump straight to Christmas. It’s always a happy time for me, being home in Queensland with the family and my kitties: Out of the six Orly Holiday polishes, I picked up the four that spoke to me the most: Yes I left the red.

Honestly didn’t look too closely and thought Rockin’ Rocket shown on the far right was kind of red but it isn’t I was quite sick today so I only managed flash swatches and I wanted to get these out before I went away for the weekend. I’ll start with Winter Wonderland as I have a daylight swatch of that one: Three coats of Winter Wonderland and all other swatches below. The glitter in the Orly is quite chunky as you can see it hanging off the edges and it’s more yellow toned than Happy Anniversary.

So yay for not buying a dupe: I would describe this polish as a deep sea green and it’s not as chunky with the glitter and also the sheerest of the lot.

Now this trend got so big it overflowed, sort of, to nail colour. Say, the whole big matt thing started in nail colour and then came to lips. Or was it vice versa? Whatever it is, you got my point. Color Therapy by Sally Hansen and what not. Everyone seems to have a care element in their nail colour now. How many awesome skin care products do you know? Not that many, right? And how many perfect makeup products? Yeah, I get it. So, when you try to combine the two, something always seems to go wrong.

If you have the care element in place, the colour seems to suffer. And just when you think the colour really works, the care part of it all slips right through your fingers.

Love Varnish: Swatches & Review

Sunday, August 30, Dove Summer Glow Review I had been feeling a little bit pale recently so I decided it was time for a bit of false tan. I’ve never been in to tanning so I was a little bit nervous to go straight into a proper tanning lotion or mousse. I thought I would start off with a tanning moisturiser because, to me, it seemed a little more foolproof and I could definitely do with the extra moisture.

I have in used the Dove Summer Glow moisturiser in the past but I used the one for light skin and I found that the effect was quite subtle and I felt as though I had washed it off before I could build up the colour to my desired darkness. This time I decided to grab the one for medium to dark skin and hoped for the best. I didn’t exfoliate because I’m lazy, I was a little bit worried that because of this the tan might cling to my dry patches but luckily I didn’t have this problem.

We just had another snow storm a few days ago and I am hoping it was the last one of this winter. I love when OPI releases collections based on cities or areas of the world because they are so creative with their polish names. So, obviously, all of these shades have names that have something to do with Lisbon, Portugal and I will provide a little insight into each name.

A few of the lighter shades were a bit streaky during the first coat, but the second coat helped to even them out. These polishes seem to set fast, so using minimal strokes while applying will yield the best and most even result.

I mean, they had me at holo… glitter. What surprised me is that the colors are even more bold and saturated than the bottle shade implies. Orly polishes come with the fan fave rubberized cap. That signature easy-to-grip topper makes it easy to control the polish. The brush is long and thin with flexible bristles.

I personally would like it if there were more bristles to get more coverage in each stroke. The three cremes and peach sparkle are not technically neons, but they apply like them. I suggest loading the brush and using as few strokes as possible. That being said, I needed three coats with each to avoid VNL visible nail line. The glitter, Feel the Funk, is a thin and easy to work with, giving semi-opaque coverage with three coats.

Connaught Square Swatch Hello once again! I apologize for my temporary hiatus. Unfortunately I’ve been having a bad week, but what do you do?

As always I have a lot of photos. I am not affiliated with Orly. Really smooth, easy to apply first coat, no streaks. I used two coats plus topcoat. Not dull per se, and not matte, just not really glossy. A good glossy topcoat made it shine though. No cleanup or topcoat. You can see there are no streaks and the coverage is great. This is a deep teal blue crelly. Another excellent formula; super easy, streak free application.

I used two coats and NO topcoat. I would normally topcoat it anyway if I was wearing this as a real mani.

All swatches are with out basecoat, three coats of colour and a top coat. Here are the reds and pinks that I currently have. I will be swatching more colours soon. Bluesky Gel Polish This is a lovely pale dusty pink colour, with a very subtle shimmer that is only noticeable in bright light. Great pale pink for darker skin tones. Does take a few extra coats than other colours.

Bluesky Gel Polish This pink is a couple of shades darker than the first one, but it has the same rose tone to it. This colour has no shimmer and is quite opaque. Bluesky Gel Polish This colour is a hot pink with a blue shimmer. It is a gorgeous colour, definitely a must have. Bluesky Gel Polish This pink is very similar to the above 06 pink but this one has a pink shimmer instead of the blue. Bluesky Gel Polish A45 This is a true red with no shimmer.
