Share As the name sufficiently indicates, demonology is the science or doctrine concerning demons. Both in its form and in its meaning it has an obvious analogy with theology, which is the science or doctrine about God. And with reference to the many false and dangerous forms of this demonic science we may fitly adapt the well-known words of Albertus Magnus on the subject of theology and say of demonology, A daemonibus docetur, de daemonibus docet, et ad daemones ducit “It is taught by the demons, it teaches about the demons, and it leads to the demons “. For very much of the literature that comes under this head of demonology is tainted with errors that may well owe their origin to the father of falsehood, and much of it again, especially those portions which have a practical purpose what may be called the ascetical and mystical demonology is designed to lead men to give themselves to the service of Satan. There is, of course, a true doctrine about demons or evil spirits , namely, that portion of Catholic theology which treats of the creation and fall of the rebel angels, and of the various ways in which these fallen spirits are permitted to tempt and afflict the children of men. But for the most part these questions will be dealt with elsewhere in this work. Here, on the contrary, our chief concern is with the various ethnic, Jewish, and heretical systems of demonology. These systems are so many that it will be out of the question to deal with them all or to set forth their doctrines with completeness.

The season is a joint effort with Hans Etzrodt writing the account of almost all the major races and also making suggestions to the appearence of the pages while I have concentrated on the minor races. The format of the is the same as for the seasons. The original pages were planned for the limited Net resources available to me back in when every bit and byte had to be counted but now over fifteen years later I’m glad I don’t have to worry about that any more but can give Hans free hands to get the reports correct and complete.
Some work is still to be done on the minor races, but apart from that, the year should now be in more or less its final form. Leif Snellman The information within these pages was derived primarily from contemporary magazines and newspapers. I am indebted to all those outstanding reporters and journalists for their diligent reporting. Without their stories, we would not have learned about what happened at these events.
Secondary sources have also been helpful occasionally but to a much lesser extent. I appreciate the valuable advice of several helpful specialists and enthusiasts who have corrected errors. My gratitude extends to Tony Kaye for patiently editing the text and catching my occasional blunder. Last but not least, I am especially grateful to Leif Snellman, not only for his wonderfully vivacious drawings but also for providing the foundation in the attempt to have another look at these long ago races, bringing them back to remembrance as elaborate accounts.

Looking over your shoulder, you could see rain — with maybe a touch of thunder and a dash of lighting — hanging low and dark, creeping up from the southwest. Humid summer evenings often end on such a musical note; the sounds of all else being absorbed and muted by the pitter-patter splash of rain striking ground or the windshield of the car where we take shelter.

Racers – Beginning Wiesloch, a city of twenty six thousand people in the south west of Germany, has an interesting historical claim to fame. On August 5th, , the city centre became the location of the world’s first ever pit stop. This momentous occasion occurred because Bertha Benz, driving her husband Karl’s Patent Motor Wagen, had surreptitiously borrowed the new machine, without his knowledge, to take a drive from their home in Mannheim to the neighbouring town of Pforzheim, forty miles away.
She told people the trip was to visit her mother, but the real reason was to get her perfectionist husband’s invention out of his workshop and into the world. To demonstrate just what it was capable of doing. The Patent Motor wagen did need a little bit of publicising; it was a small tricycle, with a four stroke petrol engine putting out around three horsepower and pushing up to three passengers well below the speed of a galloping horse at ten miles per hour on a flat road.
The sixty six mile round trip took several days, and required many improvisations from the intrepid driver. The Motor Wagen could not climb hills, so Bertha had brought along her two teenaged sons as passengers, partly for company, but mostly to help push. This first true car was not equipped with any form of fuel tank, so the Benz family ended up in Wiesloch buying jars of petroleum to pour into the engine from a pharmacist in the town centre. This first ever test drive also brought up the need for a stronger driving chain, and something better than wood for brakes.
The motor car was on it’s way, and one hundred years later, cars bearing Bertha’s married surname would be racing at speeds up to miles per hour against grids of other cars, developed over the intervening century in hundreds of different ways, over millions of miles, by thousands of designers and engineers, producing some of the most fantastic, beautiful and soulful machines ever created.
Or, more probably, she would have wished to have another car to race against. Though a German invention, credited jointly to Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, the French were first to get the car racing bug.

Officers from the Met Police pulled over the motorist when they spotted him driving the orange Lamborghini Aventador without a front plate.
After carrying out a number of checks they found the driver, who was not the registered owner, did not have insurance. Incredibly, the owner of the Lamborghini decided not to come forward and provide the correct paperwork so the police put it up for sale at auction. The auction house said it was the most expensive police seized vehicle that they had sold. This gives it a mph time of just 2. The money from the sale will go to funding frontline policing in the capital.

Known to the Club since when Gareth Morgan of Caernarfon brought its survival to their attention, the Morris remains registered in his name to this day. Accompanying invoices from The Cooke Group and others show that Mr Morgan spent a considerable time restoring the car. Indeed, it was not until September 1st that the DVLA re-registered the two-seater plus dickey for road use. Research done via the Anglesey County Record Office allowed him to reunite the Morris with its original ‘EY ‘ number plate some five years later.

A dove of gold was hung up in the baptistery at Reims after the baptism of Clovis ; in general the symbol occurs frequently in connexion with early representations of baptism. In ancient times a dove-like vessel was frequently suspended over the baptismal font and in that case As a symbol of martyrdom it indicated the action of the Holy Spirit in bestowal of the fortitude necessary for the endurance of suffering.
